Some may be surprised to hear this, but Red Dead Redemption 2 has a lot in common with the first season of the popular True Detective series. Both projects are crime dramas based on the experiences of self-proclaimed “bad people,” both focus on relationships between dangerous people, and both end on a bittersweet note. One gamer noticed these similarities and decided to combine the game and the series, creating a fantastic intro for RDR 2.
This incredible video was created by the Norwegian visual effects artist Robin Mikalsen. In it the man combined the frames of video and photos from Red Dead Redemption 2 to the sad melody of the song “Far From Any Road” by The Handsome Family. The bleak lyrics and disturbing images correspond to the bittersweet farewell of the Red Dead Redemption 2 characters to the good-old Wild West and life beyond the law, emphasizing the tragic nature of the game’s plot.
The creator of the video managed to convey the general atmosphere of the main character’s experience and fill his own creation with the symbolism, that the developers added to the game. Especially strong is the moment with the double exposition, when the figure of a deer appears in the silhouette of Arthur Morgan as a symbol of his inner nobility and honor.
All in all, such creativity should undoubtedly please both fans of the game and fans of the series.
